Anybody use Hooked on Phonics with their child?
My 1st grader still can't read. He is going to start 2nd in the fall. He has an appointment with Scottish Rite for testing, but I don't think they'll discover any disabilities.
I ordered Hooked on Phonics and I'm wondering if you've had any success with it. Any tips?25 month(s) ago

My mom had bought it for my younger brother when he was in kindergarten. He wasnt getting the whole alphabet thing, wit the letter sounds, and he was having trouble writing. They were gonna hold him back but my mom said she would work with him over the summer, so they let him pass. She ended up buying him hooked on phonics, and it did work.
Now i have a son in preschool who is doing well but she bought one for him as well, just so he could practice over the summer and be ready when kindergarten starts.
All i can say is if you do try it, you have to commit yourself to it. Work a lesson or 2 into your daily activities with him. Dont push him, just take it slow. some days he may not want to do the lessons at all but just be patient and make learning for him and he will be up to speed in no time.25 month(s) ago
